  CHILDLINE AGARTALA

VHAT as a collaborative organization has been implementing CHILDLINE Agartala project in 0381 telephone code area in West District of Tripura since April 2003. This is a national 24-hrs emergency free phone service (No 1098) for the children in crisis. The project is supported by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India through the nodal organization CHILDLINE India Foundation, Mumbai.
Major achievement of the project :

1. Call received: In the year 2012-13 CHILDLINE has received 6996 calls of which 381 were intervention calls. The project could directly provide support services to 400 cases.

2. Outreach Activities: This is one of the core activities of CHILDINE to create awareness on the protection of child rights. It is done through FGD and one to one interaction . During 2012-13, 1649 outreach sessions conducted by CHILDLINE among the street children, school going children, local clubs, district and local administrations, resource organizations, CBOs, VOs, and NGOs, general community and policy makers.

3. Open House: To ensure participation of the children in CHILDLINE Project, to give their opinion in CHILDLINE activities, 13 open houses were organized by the project. The open houses were organised through puppet show, street drama and folk songs where children were also participated.

4. IEC Activities: To create mass awareness on child rights and CHILDLINE Services, 12 wall writings were done in different prominent places of 0381 telephone code areas. The main message of wall writing was “Dial 1098 when you see a child in distress condition”.

5. Training : VHAT organized a meeting with the Resource Organizations of CHILDLINE on September 25, 2012 in VHAT Training Hall. Altogether 63 participants from different NGOs / Resource Organizations were present in the meeting. The Resource Persons of the meeting were: Dr. Bikash Roy, Chairperson, CWC, Dr. Sreelekha Ray, Executive Director, VHAT, Mr. Ajit Sarma, Asstt. Director and Mr. Bipul Kanti Majumder, Centre Coordinator of CHILDLINE.

7. Special Activity : Community Meeting in 10 villages of West Tripura District covering the CHILDLINE Agartala Area.

8. Group Outreach : Altogether 11 group outrech activities were performed in 11 places around Agartala town.
