  AHVY Scheme Implementation in Border area of Tripura-Kathalia
And Rajnagar Blocks on Jute, Cane & Bamboo Handicrafts

Developing Handicrafts activity as primary livelihood is the main agenda of the project. In border area people generally have less option of livelihood; hence, handicrafts can show them a door of hope. Voluntary Health Association of Tripura has been implementing this project in two bordering blocks viz; Rajnagar and Kathalia Blocks since 2010. Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) under Ministry of Textile is the supporter of the project.

The key outlines of the project are:
To facilitate the crafts persons in two clusters of border areas for developing Jute, Cane and Bamboo handicrafts.
To organize the crafts persons in SHGs and SHG federations.
To enhance the knowledge and skills of the artisans.
To create the new design and quality product for competitive market.
To promote sale of handicrafts through exhibitions, fair etc.
To set up Common Facility Centre for mass production and to improve working conditions.
To bring the identified artisans under group insurance.
To bring the artisans under Rajiv Gandhi Shilpi Swasthya Bima Yojana.
To provide new tools and equipments to the identified artisans.

Achievement of the project:
In total 602 rural artisans has been identified as the beneficiaries of the project.
27 revenue villages under Rajnagar and Kathalia Blocks have been selected for project intervention
Two 3 months trainings were conducted for skill up-gradation of the artisans covering 40 craft persons in Kathalia Block.
Two 15 days workshops of Design and Technical Development with 60 artisans in Kathalia Block.
43 SHGs has been formed so far in the project area and their bank account opened in the local banks.
Rajiv Gandhi Shilpi Swasthya Bima Yojana (Health Insurance) cards has been issued to all the artisans by the ICCI Lombard
All the artisans are covered under group insurance scheme, ‘Janashree Bima Yojana’ of Life Insurance Corporation of India.

Future plan of Action :
VHAT has submitted the action plan for the year 2013-14 to Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) for the following activities which will be performed as per the plan after getting sanction from the Ministry.
Skill up-gradation (Bamboo & Cane): 8 (Eight) programmes.
Skill up-gradation (Jute diversified): 2 (Two) Programmes.
Design & Technical Development workshop (Bamboo &Cane): 8(Eight) programmes.
Design & Technical Development workshop (Jute diversified): 2(Two) programmes.
